The Space Geophysics Division – DGE belongs to the Space and
Atmospheric Sciences General Coordination – CEA at the National
Space
Research Institute – INPE. The objective of the DGE is the
understanding of the chemical and physical processes occurring in
our
planet and its near environment. The major activities of the DGE
are
research and development, post-graduation, divulgation and
counseling in Space Geophysics.Research is dedicated to
interplanetary
and solar processes related to the origin of
geomagnetic storms and
space weather forecast; Sun-Earth
relationship based on natural
records, geomagnetic field and space-
time variations, electric
conductivity of internal layers of the planet;
electrical processes in the
atmosphere, electrical storms and
lightning in Brazil; natural minor
gases (CO, CO2, N2O, CH4, C2H2
and CFCs) and ozone layer(O3).
Closely related with research
activities, a post-graduation course in
Space Geophysics concedes
degrees at Master of Science and
Philosophy Doctor levels.
